Two Piranhas to Receive 2008 YMCA Youth Spirit Award! Kasey Morrison and Peter Geissinger will be awarded the Darien YMCA's Youth Spirit Award at the Y's Annual Meeting on May 21. One or two youth who exemplify the spirit of good sportsmanship through leadership, dedication and hard work, and who have made significant contributions through service to the community, are honored each year. Congratulations to well-deserving Kasey & Peter!! Zeus/Sharks Meet @ Yale, Sat-Sun. 5/3-4 The Piranhas started the season off well at their earliest Long Course Meet in four years. Forty-nine Piranhas competed at the Yale Practice pool over the weekend of May 3-4 and twenty-four of those swimmers acheived ALL BEST TIMES!!! These swimmers were James Baker, Sydney Baker, Liza Bragg, Chris Brook, Victoria Chao, Adriana Dziedzic, Bart Dziedzic, Megan Gray, Jake Greene, Elizabeth Kearney, Eric Liu, Rebecca Liu, Francesca Milewski, Caroline Orem, Amelia Ornato, Cesar Pena, Erik Ryan, Julia Stobbie, Dan Sullivan, Sarah Terhune, Helen Watson, Chris WEihs, J Whelan, and Kenny Yamaguchi. Some swims and swimmers that stood out were Helen Watson and Victoria Chao in all swims for their incredible technique, Elizabeth Kearney in her first 400 Freestyle for a well-split and aggressive race, Erik Ryan's 100 Butterfly technique, and J Whelan's 200 Butterfly technique and pace. Gigi Kearney Presentation - Wednesday April 30th - 6:00-7:30p Physical Therapist Gigi Kearney spoke about shoulder mechanics, stretching and injury prevention in the Community Room of the Darien YMCA last night. Over 40 Piranha swimmers and parents attended. The presentation was insightful, educational and well received. She started the presentation with a brief look at the anatomy of the shoulder. She spoke about shoulder stability, the benefits of yoga and core training, proper and improper stretches and the difference between ligaments and muscles. She touched on the myths of overtraining, emphasized consistency with training and answered questions. Thank-you Gigi for sharing your knowledge with the Piranhas.
